Troubleshooting

SymptomWhat to do
401 or unauthorizedCheck that you pasted the whole key and that it hasn’t expired or been revoked. For a new key, ask your Swayable Client Success Manager.
400 or 405Use GET, the exact path with no trailing slash, and no request body. The only allowed query parameter is segment_id on the results endpoint.
404 or Test unavailable.List your tests (or segments) again and use an ID from the response. You can only access your own organization’s tests.
503 or Test data is temporarily unavailable.Retry later. If it persists, send your Client Success Manager the time, test ID and error text. Never include your key.
Results list is emptyCheck the test’s availability.results. Only available tests return results; an empty list is not a measured zero.
Claude Code: not connectedRun claude mcp list, restart Claude Code, and check /mcp. If your company blocks the connection, ask your administrator to allow results.swayable.com.
Codex: authentication failsSWAYABLE_API_KEY must be set in the terminal you started Codex from. Set it and restart Codex.
Gemini CLI: authentication failsAdd the server with --transport http. Without it, Gemini CLI ignores the Authorization header.
Mac “no coprocess” errorUse the hidden-prompt command from the setup steps. The older Bash read -p prompt doesn’t work in zsh.
“Method not allowed” from an MCP clientConfigure the client for Streamable HTTP. The server doesn’t support the older SSE transport.

FAQ

Which tests can I see?

Only your own organization’s tests. Every person in your organization with access sees the same list.

Do the MCP tools and the REST API return the same data?

Yes. They use the same test IDs and return the same results.

Is my API key the same as my Swayable sign-in?

No. Your API key is separate from your Swayable sign-in. Every MCP client and the REST API use the API key.

Which AI assistants can I use?

Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, or any MCP client that supports remote servers with custom request headers. See Connect your AI assistant.

How current are the results?

New tests appear automatically. Results become available after a test is finalized, usually within 1 day.

Can I read individual responses?

No. The API returns aggregate results and, for some tests, a fixed preview of up to 20 illustrative entries. Respondent-level data isn’t available.

Can a colleague use my key?

No. Keys are personal. Ask your Client Success Manager for a key for your colleague.
